What is a synchronous timer?
A synchronous timer, also referred to as an interval or on/off timer, will alternate energizing and de-energizeing a load at a specific rate. Synchronous timers will energize for the same amount of time that the load will remain de-energized. For mechanical relay applications, the relay contacts will alternate between closed and open. The amount of time the contacts are closed will equal the amount of time the contacts are open.
Programming a timer for synchronous timing applications
Any Phenix timer device may be programmed for synchronous timing applications. The Phenix Programmer Software provides an easy interface for setting up a synchronous timer.
Synchronous Timer Program Sample
The sample program above demonstrates the basic design for a synchronous timer. Selecting the "On Power" event will start the sequence when the timer is powered. The first command in the sequence will set the output to ON and initiates a 10 second interval. After the 10 second ON interval expires, the next command in the list is executed. The timer sets the output to OFF and another 10 second interval is initiated. After the second interval has expired, the program will automatically loop around to the first interval and the sequence will be repeated. The result will activate the output for 10 seconds then deactivate the output for 10 seconds and continually repeat this cycle until the timer's power is removed.
A full range operating voltage and switching current timer devices are available. For the list of available timers, please see Phenix Timer Catalog.
The timer program memory is stored non-volatile memory in the timer. The memory will persist through power outage. Timer devices may be ordered preloaded with any delay time desired or changed at any time using Phenix Infrared Programming |
